Today we will look at very simple makeup basics you need to know before you embark on your journey of makeup.

Most people don't have any idea about makeup basics. They just splatter colours on. The idea of applying makeup is to enhance your features and bring out your own natural beauty. So makeup should create subtle emphasis and not a mask of disgusting colours.

There are simple makeup basics you should know.

~ Knowledge of the products: just going to the counter or cosmetics shop to buy a makeup product without knowing the product formulation, is not a great idea. You need to know that the product you are buying is the right one for you. A product may suit one woman but it doesn't mean it will be suitable for your skin type, tone or colour. E.g when buying a foundation, ensure its the right shade for your skin tone.

~ Also, have knowledge of Makeup brushes. Know their various uses. You may not be able to use an eye shadow brush in place of an angular or powder brush.

~ Access your features: makeup either enhance your features or play them down. Look in the mirror and look at your facial features. Ask yourself which would you like to enhance and which would you want to play down?

Your face: makeup can improve your face shape by illusion. You can create an illusion of high cheek bones on a typical round face using makeup. All you need to know is how to contour the right places with your makeup brushes.

Your eyes: Well applied makeup can make small eyes look bigger and round eyes look longer.

Your lips: Outlining your lips outside your original lip line, can make your lips look fuller.

Your nose: A flat and wide nose that is well contoured at the right places, can give out an illusion of a thin, pointed nose.

Also note that the makeup that suited you when you were 25, may not suit you 10 yrs down the line.

We are all different, a makeup that is good for one woman may not be good for you. Brush up your techniques and put new ideas into practice.
